We've Come A Long Way.....

The Adobe Inn at Cascade is presently entering its 11th season welcoming guests to the Pikes Peak region of Colorado.  Over the years, we have had the pleasure of meeting wonderful people from all over the world and I am happy to say that we have also made lifelong friends in the process.  Sheri and I are lucky enough to enjoy what we do on a daily basis; however, in the beginning, we sometimes questioned our decision to go into business and operate an inn. The reason, we purchased a 1929 residence and had to convert the property into a quality lodging establishment which would accentuate our personal touches and create a destination where guests would feel welcome and want to stay on their Colorado vacation or spend a romantic weekend escape.

Moonlight BEFORE
The following photos will somewhat relate to you, the reader, the work that needed to be done.  Remind you, not only did we have interior and exterior elements to improve upon, but we were starting a business from scratch and this was being accomplished at the same time as the remodeling efforts. Oh, and by the way, I was still driving to Denver and working until we actually opened the business.  Our goal was to be open by Memorial Day weekend in 2003 and we made met our goal, although I know there was wet paint somewhere in the inn when we welcomed our very first guests!

Moonlight AFTER
The picture above is the way the Moonlight Suite appeared when we first toured the house. Needless to say, after hours of work, the picture on the left is the finished product. Painting walls in this old house was not easy.  First, we had to fix the plaster by scraping and patching  then sanding. If you are ever guests at the inn, you'll notice all our walls have color, no plain white walls.  This makes the guest rooms and common areas feel warm and inviting.

Ponderosa BEFORE

Ponderosa NOW
The picture to the right is the Ponderosa Pine Suite as it appeared prior to the remodeling effort.  The photo on the left is the finished product.

Finally, the Adobe Suite's before and after pics.....I'll see if you can decipher which photo represents the before and after image.

Opening the inn has truly been a labor of love.  It took a great deal of time, money and effort to make the inn appear and feel just the way we imagined. Fortunately, the guests we have welcomed into the Adobe Inn over the years have provided us with positive feedback not only on how the inn appears, but how it feels....welcoming and peaceful!

So, give us a try on your next vacation or romantic escape. Hopefully you too will feel welcome and appreciate the colors, design elements and ambiance.  One thing is certain, you will love the breakfasts!

A Few of our FAVORITE things..

I love to cook and my husband...well, he likes to eat! I don't just love to cook, I get excited about the ingredients it takes to make a fantastic meal, whether it's buying freshly ground spices from a local spice store or making our traditional annual buying trip each fall to the farms near Rocky Ford, Colorado, for bushels of freshly picked and roasted poblano chile's.

There is nothing quite as heavenly as the aroma of roasted green chile's, the scent of which lingers in the car for weeks afterward as a pleasant reminder of our cherished tradition each year.

The experience of meeting the farmers that grow our food is a humbling one that can't be beat. We make it a point to buy locally grown fresh ingredients when available, buying much of what is used to prepare our signature inn breakfast dishes at local farmer's markets.

We're also very fortunate to live in the small, scenic mountain community of Cascade...not only is it beautiful but the White family has a residence in Cascade. They operate a peach farm in Palisade, Colorado where they grow the juiciest, most delicious peaches you will ever have the good fortune to eat. The Whites are particular about their peaches and only pick them they're ripe. Every year I look forward to the three separate shipments they bring by truck, freshly picked, from their farm on the Western Slope which are featured in many of our signature recipes, such as Blue Corn Pancakes with Fresh Colorado Peaches and Cream.

Spring is upon us, Summer almost here and soon I'll be back at one of my favorite past times of shopping our local farmer's markets for fresh ingredients used in our delicious breakfast recipes for our Adobe Inn at Cascade guests. Our breakfast in suite is a treat not to be missed and you too can enjoy a few of our FAVORITE things!
